Experienced & Knowledgeable Family Law Attorney

Milford Divorce Attorney

Divorce is one of the most difficult and emotional things that people ever experience. If you are facing a divorce, it is important to seek representation from an attorney who is both a caring, compassionate counselor and a zealous advocate.

At my Milford, Massachusetts, law firm, I forcefully advocate on my clients' behalf. But first, I listen to them and talk candidly about the issues that may affect them. Sometimes people have unrealistic expectations about how courts will treat their divorces. I talk honestly about likely outcomes with my clients, even when the news might be difficult to hear.

Divorces may involve issues, including:

What To Expect In Your Divorce

Each divorce is unique. When my clients have been served with divorce papers, I contact the other side on their behalf. My goal is often to get a parenting plan in place so that my client is ensured regular time with the children. When my clients plan to initiate a divorce, I ensure that they feel safe. I then contact the client's partner or his or her lawyer to mediate the case.

Many people are nervous about going to court, especially when there has been a great deal of disagreement in the marriage and during the divorce process. I support them by helping them understand what to expect and accompanying them during all phases of mediation or hearings.

Property Division

When property division is involved in a divorce, having the right information is key. Under Massachusetts law, property that was acquired during the marriage (with some notable exceptions) is divided equitably between the parties. Equitably does not necessarily mean equally — it means fairly.

Courts assess how many different assets and debts should be divided, including your family home, additional real estate property, 401(k)s, IRAs and pensions, investments, automobiles and valuable collections. As your lawyer, I can help you understand how the law may affect you. I will work directly with you to develop a strategy that protects your interests.
